Dr Loong Tse Han is a general surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore
His clinical expertise lies in colorectal surgery, with a proficiency in minimally invasive techniques. He has a special interest in treating pelvic floor disorders such as faecal incontinence, obstructed defecation and rectal prolapse.
Dr Loong is a former senior consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
He graduated from the University of Dundee in Scotland and later worked at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital. He also worked in the colorectal surgery unit at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh where he learnt more about the ‘Enhanced Recovery After Surgery’ concept.
Dr Loong was subsequently involved in research and initiatives to improve care for patients with anal warts and anal intra-epithelial neoplasia while working at the University College Hospital in London.
Following his experience overseas, he returned to Singapore and did his training at Singapore General Hospital. He was subsequently trained at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), where he received most of his training in minimally invasive surgery and robotic-assisted surgery.
At TTSH, he was also involved in several initiatives to improve the quality of colonoscopy and outcomes following surgery on the colon and rectum.
Dr Loong obtained his fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK.
He also undertook a 1-year fellowship at CHU Nantes in France, focusing on functional colorectal conditions. He brought back the expertise he gained to Singapore and established the colorectal pelvic floor clinic at TTSH, where he managed patients with faecal incontinence, rectal prolapse, obstructed defecation and constipation.
He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years.
