Experiences

Dr Gerard Chuah obtained his basic medical degree in 1988 from the National University of Singapore, followed by his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS Edinburgh) in 1993 and in 1994, he obtained his Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology from the Postgraduate School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He subsequently obtained his Advanced Specialty Training Certification in 1997 and went to the University of Toronto for his Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery from 1997-1998. He also went to the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary for a medical retina fellowship in 1998.

Upon his return to Singapore in1998, he obtained his Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore and was accredited as a specialist in Ophthalmology in Singapore. A former Public Service Commission Local Merit Scholar, he is also accredited and registered as a specialist in the United Kingdom (General Medical Council specialist register) and Hong Kong (specialist register of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine).

He is presently on the overseas register of the General Medical Council, United Kingdom and was a former clinical tutor with the National University of Singapore, a former visiting consultant to the Eye Institute, National Healthcare Group, visiting professor to the Qingdao Hai Ci Group of Hospitals, a visiting lecturer to the Shanghai Ren Ji Hospital group, former head of the Alexandra Hospital Eye Service and also former Head of Business Development of the Eye Institute, National Healthcare Group. From 2001-2005, he was the Chairman of the National Kidney Foundation Children's Medical Fund.

He is presently the Consultant Eye Surgeon and Medical Director of the Asian Diabetic and Retinal Disease Center located at 1 Tras Link Orchid Hotel.
